How do KMART desks compare to their IKEA counterparts?
Recently KMART has upped their game considerably when it comes to on-trend furniture. KMART desks are not only affordable but they are getting more and more stylish. Both IKEA and KMART desks require you to put them together which sucks. I don’t know anyone who loves a flat pack building session. Unfortunately, this is the case with most desks unless you are happy to pay considerably more.
Finding the perfect desk for your room can be a real mission and its important to do your research first.
Read on to see the price, size and storage differences of 4 styles of desks.
KMART DESK – SCANDI $39
Dimensions: 75cm (H) x 110cm (W) x 50cm (D)
This desk comes in two different colours, a light with white legs and a dark with black legs.
This desk is perfect if you want something simple and don’t need any storage. It was simple to put together and a bargain at $39.
I have had this desk in both colours. The light one I had on the carpet and the dark one on hardwood floors. It definitely seemed a lot more sturdy on the carpet. The desk moved around a bit on the hardwood.
KMART has named the darker one Walnut Look Desk. It’s exactly the same style as the Scandi desk.
IKEA DESK – KULLABERG $199
75cm (H) x 110cm (W) x 70cm (D)
This IKEA desk has a natural and lively look. There are knots and other marks on the surface which makes the desk unique.
The Kullaberg is very similar looking to the KMART version. The main difference is the depth and sturdiness of the desk. There is also a big price difference.
The Kullaberg desk would be suited for someone needing a more solid desk with a decent amount of bench space that isn’t going to move around.
KMART DESK – Oak Look Single Drawer $79
78.5cm (H) x 110cm (W) x 50cm (D)
This desk is stylish and has a little bit of storage, perfect for keeping your pens and laptop hidden. This KMART desk is slightly more expensive than the other KMART desks however it does provide some storage.
This desk is great for people who like having a clean space to work on as you can move stationery and books to the below level.
IKEA DESK – LILLÅSEN $199
74cm (H) x 102cm (W) x 49cm (D)
The Lillasen IKEA desk is made from bamboo. Bamboo is a durable, renewable and sustainable material which is a real bonus.
The desk is treated on the back which means the desk doesn’t have to be pushed against a wall.
Having three draws means that you can have all your stationery neatly packed away.
This desk would be perfect for someone who likes to have a neat, clean looking desk. There isn’t ample storage so if you need space for your books this might not be the desk for you.
IKEA DESK – MICKE $59
75cm (H) x 73cm (W) x 50cm (D)
The Micke desk is awesome if you don’t have a lot of space. Its the smallest of all the desks mentioned, however, it does have a draw as wide as the entire length of the desk.
Having purchased this desk, I can confirm its not the best quality in the world. In saying that, it does the job. For $59 I was happy with what I got. The best feature of this IKEA desk is the cut out at the back. The hole on the back right corner is for your cords to go through. This makes your desk look neat and saves space.
The Micke desk comes in a white finish and a dark wood look.
Take time in choosing the perfect desk for you and your needs. Before you purchase one, measure your space and see what can fit. Think about how much you like to spread out and if you need some storage.
If possible, try and go instore and sit at the desks you like before you buy it. This way you can get a feel of what it will be like when you using it to study on.
