It took me a few years to finally realise how much certain candles affected me when I was studying.
There are perfect scents for helping keep you focused and other beautiful scents to help you relax when you’re panicking before a big exam.
I recently had the chance to speak to the lovely Emily who is the owner and founder of Wild Alchemy Creations. Emily only uses the best ingredients sourced and made locally in Australia, which I love her for.
I recently picked Emily’s brain and found out what candles are best to burn while studying, relaxing and lots of other amazing candle facts.
WILD ALCHEMY CREATIONS
Thank you so much for taking your time with me today Emily. I have been following your brand for a while now and I’m so excited to finally get to chat.Â
Before we get into the nuts and bolts of the candles, when did you decide to start your business and how did it all come about?
Thank you for having me! I’m so excited about this. How it all started… I have always been a massive fan of scents and candles and I would be in candle stores sniffing every single candle they have available. I then took a candle workshop and thought that it would be such a great idea to offer a product that you can customise completely – from the scent notes, the jar, the colour of your wax to the exteriors and labels. It just made so much sense to me.
I did a lot of experimenting with different brands of wax, types of wax and fragrance oils. There was a lot of burn time with my experimental candles but it has all worked out in the end.
THE BEST CANDLES TO BURN WHILE STUDYING
A lot of the hustlers are studying, what scent can you recommend to burn while studying for motivation?
Personally, when I study, I go for something rejuvenating like citrus and zesty scents such as grapefruit and lemon. When I am feeling stressed, a nice calming lavender and vanilla scented candle is always my go to.
Here at The Organised Hustler, we love a good self-care Sunday. What would be your ideal Sunday?
It’s always so important to be able to have a day to yourself and re-energise for the week to come. My ideal Sunday would be a lazy Sunday morning, cooking breakfast with my partner and relaxing with him. Then catch a movie and just having a nice easy going day with my favourite scent burning through the house.
When its time for bed or a self care today, what’s a good scent to burn?
Really relaxing scents such as lavender, jasmine and honeysuckle are my favourite scents for my pre-bed routine. I always find it extremely calming having the candlelit while I’m winding down in the evening as well.
Whats a great candle to burn to help with nerves?
When I’m studying for a big final, I definitely have my jasmine, lavender and ylang-ylang on full blast all day. The scent also helps with motivation and keeping focus and concentration.
CANDLES & YOUR MOOD
Do you find certain scents are more beneficial to our mood?Â
I find that scents play a really big part in setting your mood and can really uplift your mood if you have had a bad day. For example, I find the invigorating scents such as lemongrass, yuzu and orange really help with my concentration when I have a big exam to study. Whereas, if I’ve had a long day, I would choose a more subtle scent such as jasmine, sandalwood and ylang-ylang to calm me down.
How do you tell a good quality candle from a crap one that you barely get any scent from?
I usually tell my customers to burn a candle for the first time for a least a couple of hours as the first burn is usually the most important for breaking the candle in.
From the first burn, I can usually tell whether the candle has maximised its scent loading or whether the proportion of wax to scent is so minimal you can barely get a whiff of it at all.
Another important thing is making sure that you burn the candle so that the surface is completely melted to prevent tunnelling from occurring. Tunnelling is when the wax melts around the wick but doesn’t burn the whole surface so the next time you burn the candle, it is just melting the wax surrounding the wick.
